When to use this calculator
Use it for a known itinerary when you already trust an MPG figure from recent tanks. It does not add wind, cargo, or two-up load. If those change economy, enter the lower MPG you expect.
180 miles at 45 MPG is 4.00 US gallons. That is the inverse of the 4 gallon × 45 MPG example on the range page.
Empty distance or zero MPG produces a field error.
The result is fuel volume, not a route plan. Check that the tank can actually hold the gallons you calculate.

Is this the inverse of the range calculator?
Yes, when you use the same units. Range is gallons × MPG. Trip fuel is miles ÷ MPG.
Which gallon is in the result?
The US gallon. Switch to metric if you want liters.
Can I enter a reserve here?
Not on this page. Add a cushion by lowering the MPG you enter, or use the reserve field on the range calculator.
